Title I Compact

Overview

Risley International Academy of Innovation and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high academic standards.

Risley International Academy of Innovation will:

Provide a high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows:

• Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) college readiness program
• AVID organizational procedures and instructional strategies
• Capturing Kids’ Hearts processes to strengthen student connections by enhancing healthy bonds and developing self-managing behaviors
• Provide ongoing formative assessment as well as a summative assessment to ensure all students are achieving growth and success in their academics
• School-wide multi-tiered Response to Intervention system of support that meets the academic and behavioral needs of each student

Hold parent-teacher conferences during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.  Specifically, those conferences will be held:

• During October 2023 and TBD In Spring 2024
• Back to School/Title I night in which the compact and Title I Parent Involvement will be discussed
• Parent-Teacher Conference upon request by a parent

Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress.  Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows:

• Home/School communication on a regular basis through School Messenger, School Facebook, and Website pages
• Make positive phone calls on academic and behavioral successes
• Parent-Teacher Conferences
• Progress Reports for Intermediate grade levels half-way in the quarter and in the quarter.
• Quarterly report cards
• RtI Meetings for identified students

Provide parents with reasonable access to staff.  Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents as follows:

• Hold an annual “Open House” to meet staff and learn about Title I programs
• Meet with parents upon request and/or return phone calls/ emails in a timely manner
• The principal and/or counselor are available at all times for emergency meetings.
• Response to Intervention Resources
• Teacher email addresses posted on the school’s website

Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities, as follows:

• Attend school functions/sporting events during the day or evening
• Complete volunteer background check
• Educational showcases, concerts, and other opportunities
• Make arrangements with the classroom teacher for a time and specific volunteer activities
• Make the School Parent Involvement Policy, school newsletters, and informational literature in English and Spanish available in the Parent Resource center located in the office
• Serve on the school parent accountability board

Parent Responsibilities

We, as parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:

• Monitoring attendance
• Participating, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my children’s education
• Staying informed about my child’s education and communicating with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school and/or school district either received by my child or by mail and responding, as appropriate
• Assist or allow your student to attend extended day tutoring/ activities
• Attend parent nights, conferences, and parent meetings concerning your child
• Return phone calls and answer requests for meetings and conferences in a timely manner

Student Responsibilities

We, as students, will share the responsibility to improve our academic achievement and achieve the State’s high standards.  Specifically, we will:

• Attend school regularly
• Be respectful to all adults and my peers
• Come prepared for class every day and ready to learn.
• Demonstrate leadership at Risley
• Doing my part to learn all I can - My future depends on it
• Help make our school a safe place for all students

Title I Programs and Plan

• Inform parents about goals and purposes of Title I, curriculum used in Title I programs, academic assessments used to measure student progress, and proficiency levels students are expected to meet.
• Involve parents in the planning, review, and improvement of Title I programs at school.
• If the Title I Plan is not satisfactory to the parents, submit parent comments on the plan to the district.
• If requested by parents, provide opportunities for regular meetings where parents may offer suggestions or ask questions.
• Provide timely responses to parent’s suggestions/questions.
• Provide assistance to parents, as appropriate, in understanding assessments, Title I requirements, monitoring academic progress, and how to work together to improve student achievement.
